I began the course at the Del Ferro Institute without knowing exactly what to expect, but determined to take it seriously. The first day I was confronted with a video recording in which I saw myself stuttering for the first time. This was a shock, but it was a crucial moment that made me realize how much I had underestimated my speech problem. This confrontational approach worked for me and immediately gave me the motivation to persevere.
The intensive course days were tough both physically and emotionally, but in a positive way. What surprised me the most, was that I soon found that the Del Ferro method simply prevented me from stuttering. The idea that I had to avoid difficult-to-pronounce letters disappeared completely.
The breathing exercises we learned also give me a lot of peace and confidence. For example, I even applied them while ordering food. It gave me a tremendous sense of control and confidence.
Although I realise I still have to work hard to speak stutter-free without thinking, it already feels like I have been freed from some kind of prison. I truly believe this method will help me permanently.
