Message from one of our Miami students

Dear Ingrid and Dennis,

You both are an amazing teachers and I have so much respect for you. Thank you for helping my son. Here is a poem Safi wrote about stuttering. He wrote this in 30 min because his speech therapist asked him to write how he feels about stuttering. Thank you for everything you have done for my son. I will always be grateful to you.

Stuttering is not an issue
It’s not a deformity
There’s no need to cry into a tissue
You must face the reality
It’s something you must accept
It’s like an unkillable beast
You must accept
Do challenge the beast
Tame it, keep it under your control
Like a misbehaving dog
Do not let it take over
Rap it around thy finger
Only then will it stop to linger
The knowledge has been given to you
Don’t jump off the ledge
Into uncertainty
Where few have escaped
