Miami Del Ferro Course – day 4
Time flies when you are having fun. We already reached day 4 of the 5-day Del Ferro course. We started of asking how the group did the evening before. The group was a bit passive in the early morning which made Dennis and Ingrid bring their A-game.
One of our younger students was quiet in the corner and did not bring the level that was necessary in this stage of the course. After a wake-up call he got emotional but came back stronger than ever. The rest of the day he was being an example which was led to a lot of fluent sentences and a true change in his attitude.
Ingrid continued her morning topics and discussed the Del Ferro Method with the students. They were being prepared for what can happen in the future. Actively letting the students participate in the student gives the teachers the opportunity to check how the method is applied.
Before lunch Ingrid also explained that certain thoughts or fears do not have to be true. It is important to face upcoming situations with a neutral view and take these situations by the horns.
In the afternoon Dennis continued on the morning topics and continued to ask a lot of questions to the students. Each sentence they say, is a step closer in overcoming their stuttering. One important thing to be aware of in the future is overconfidence. The danger of the method is its success. Speaking fluent can lead to overconfidence and being sloppy in applying the method. The students understood this and continued to apply the method in full concentration.
Then it was time for phase 4 and as expected, the students were really excited for that. Phase 4 already looks a lot like how people speak outside and the beauty of it was that everybody put in the right work the whole week to smoothly apply this new phase.
The last quarter of the day we discussed what the challenges for the coming period are and what challenged you can find in Miami. One of our students said a big challenge was to speak about herself in front a group. Dennis could not let this one slide and invited her to sit in front of the class and introduce herself. In full concentration and completely in her zone she applied the method and produced sentence after sentence. Nerves, insecurities and fear were all taken away by the method and the whole class was proud of her performance.
Dennis explained the plan for tonight: going to Aventura mall (one of the biggest malls in Florida) to seek challenges and apply the method. The night of the challenges always is great as people are having a lot of fun and really get a big boost in their confidence.
